The man looked withdrawn today. The eyes had sunk further in their sockets. There was a certain blankness about the eyes, as if withdrawn and focusing on something somewhere deep within. Lying on the bed in that small room in the hospice, his emaciated frame resembled a thin stick. It was only when the lower jaw moved that you realized that the stick was a human being. A newspaper lay on his stomach. The nurse had been helping him read it when I walked in.
